Was there ever a time when someone told you to “be more feminine”?
This has personally never happened to me, but I dislike the genderized expectations that people put onto others.
The world is changing and I think it’s unnecessary in this day and age.
What are the societal expectations and perceptions that come with ‘Femininity’?
I think we all know what traditionally constitutes as “feminine” but I don’t let society dictate my being. My own femininity is how I carry myself - which is with poise and power.
Does being Asian complicate it?
Not at all. Femininity carries a different meaning for everyone, there’s no right and wrong. Whether you want to be a stay-at-home wife or a CEO, all the power to you.
If femininity is associated with roles such as being a mother, or caregiver—is there anything wrong with that? Is it limiting to our identities? Are you afraid to embrace it if so, why?
The beliefs and stigmas of others only affect us if we allow it. If you choose not to let it limit you, then it won’t, no matter the challenges you may face. Stop caring how people perceive you with their own lens and just forge your own path.
To be #FeminineAndProud is just being unapologetically yourself, whether you are conventionally “feminine” or not. Most importantly, it's about being proud of who you are and what you stand for.

Embrace femininity on your own terms!

How do you support the women in your community? We’d love to give them a shout out to our #LBCommunity.
I think the best way to support women is to give them 1 or preferably both of these 2 things – which are your time and resources. For example, you could share your knowledge and opportunities, or even show your support financially.
My contribution is towards marginalized members of our society.
I am the Special Projects Coordinator at a women's shelter called Rumah Kita. It's a temporary shelter for single, pregnant mothers.
Who’s your ultimate girl crush, woman icon or role model?
All the people I admire happen to be women. Everything from their global impact, contribution to the arts and work ethic is inspiring.
Some of them include: Malala, Zanele Muholi, Shirin Neshat, Beyoncé, Maya Angelou and of course, my family and friends.
I have always been surrounded by amazing, powerful, and independent women. We continuously support and uplift each other to be the best possible version of ourselves.
