Fannie Lim

Executive Director of Daughters of Tomorrow

Introducing Grace Chan's first Capsule Collection with @lovebonito - “The 25 Hours Women”. As modern women, we have different roles and different moments in day and I believe we all need 1 hour more in the 24 hours day. Designed for everyday Asian women, let these pieces journey with you from work to play!

Our LBWC of the month, Fannie Lim, the Executive Director of Daughters of Tomorrow, shares her story with us!

Tell us about yourself and what are the different roles you’re playing in life?

The silver lining through this crazy pandemic period is that I discovered how comfortable I am to be home and doing a lot less socializing. In life, I am a daughter, sister, wife and mother. In terms of my professional sphere, I’m a colleague, boss and spokesperson for causes I care about.

"I think it’s almost an impossible task to juggle all responsibilities in a manner I’d find satisfactory so I’ve learnt to let go and at the same time allow for people around me to step in - be it life in general or at work."

Having to deal with multiple responsibilities in life, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?

Time is always a limited resource. So to be able to allocate it in a way that fulfills all my responsibilities is almost an impossibility.

What do you usually do to wind down after a long day?

There are a few things I will gravitate towards; reading the news, looking back at old videos of children’s growing up years, watching Netflix, folding clothes, eating supper (and getting my husband to eat with me).

What would your ideal me-time look like on the weekend?

I like to bring my children to do something that makes them happy. And some of these activities they’re old enough to enjoy on their own or my husband graciously brings them so I will bring a book/ listen to a podcast with a hot drink in hand (I’m always cold in air conditioned environments!!)

What’s one piece of advice you’d share with the #LBCommunity women about striking a balance between the different responsibilities in life without feeling overwhelmed?

As shared, I think it’s almost an impossible task to juggle all responsibilities in a manner I’d find satisfactory so I’ve learnt to let go and at the same time allow for people around me to step in - be it life in general or at work. This is how we build community - when we can entrust ourselves to others, and allow them to contribute in our space and vice versa.
