What is Vegan Leather?
The vegan leather used by Love, Bonito is usually made from plastic or vinyl that is specially treated and coloured to mimic animal leather. Advanced techniques help produce vegan leather that is almost as durable as animal leather. Love, Bonito only uses vegan leather as it is cruelty-free.
HOW TO WASH VEGAN LEATHER GARMENTS
Handwashing is the most recommended method for vegan leather. However, you can machine wash but with extra caution. Regardless of hand or machine wash, below are the general rules to note:
1.Before washing, use a damp cloth to wipe away and spot-clean stains.
2.Hand wash vegan leather in cold water to prevent material from warping or melting.
3.Use a gentle liquid detergent. Avoid using powder detergent, bleach, ammonia, or other strong substances. Rinse with clean water.
4.Turn the garment inside out to allow the detergent and water solution to easily reach the interior surface. Vegan leather often accumulates the most buildup on the inside due to body oils.
5.Rinse in cold water until no suds remain. Excessive detergent left on the pleather can cause it to stiffen and crack. Do not wring. Do not add any fabric softener.
6.Before putting in the washing machine, turn the garment inside out and place inside a mesh laundry bag for extra protection. Reduce the speed of the final spin cycle to minimise wrinkling.
7.Do not wash together with sharp objects together to prevent scratches on the material’s surface.
8.Wash before wearing, inside out, with similar colours.
HOW TO DRY VEGAN LEATHER GARMENTS
1.Never put vegan leather in the dryer. Instead, hang it inside out on a sturdy hanger to drip dry or lay it flat on absorbent towels. Drying may take up to 24 hours. Avoid using rough or metal clips, as they can cause permanent indentations.
2.Do not wring.
3.Turn the item frequently while drying flat to ensure even drying and maintain its shape.
4.Wipe the garment with a soft, absorbent microfiber cloth to speed up drying.
5.Vegan leather does not wrinkle easily. Do not iron. Instead, steam inside out. (Only if necessary.)
HOW TO STORE VEGAN LEATHER GARMENTS
When the garment is dry, wipe a soft cloth with a tiny amount of baby, olive, or coconut oil to condition the vegan leather. This will keep it supple, prevent cracking and peeling, and help remove wrinkles. When cared for properly, it can last a long time.
1.Store vegan leather in a climate-controlled, cold environment.
2.Avoid humid areas. Use mothballs, lavender, or cedar chips to deter moths.
3.Do not pile while damp.
4.Keep away from sequins, metal accessories (like belts), or anything that could cause scratches.
NOTE: "Each design may have specific care needs based on its construction or the fabric blend. Always refer to the care label for detailed instructions, as requirements may vary depending on the material composition."
