What is Tweed?

Tweed fabric is a textile that gets its unique appearance from weaving various coloured yarns with different thicknesses, fibre types, and colours. These details create a visually textured look, adding depth and complexity to its appearance. It often features small flecks or patterns that give it a distinctive charm.

Tweed has a classic, sophisticated look that has remained fashionable for decades, often linked to high-end fashion.

Due to the varied nature of tweed fabrics, they can often be delicate and hard to care for. At Love, Bonito, we carefully select tweed fabrics that are easier to care for without sacrificing the garment’s aesthetics.

HOW TO WASH TWEED GARMENTS

Handwashing is the most recommended method for tweed. However, machine washing is possible with extra caution. Regardless of hand or machine wash, below are the general rules to note:

1.Hand wash tweed in cold water with a gentle liquid detergent. Avoid using powder detergent, bleach, ammonia, or other strong substances. Rinse with clean water.

2.For machine washing, turn the garment inside out and place it in a laundry net to prevent snagging. Wash with similar colours.

3.Wash before wearing.

4.To remove stains, spot clean with clean, cold water.

HOW TO DRY TWEED GARMENTS

1.Lightweight tweeds can be hung to dry, while heavier tweeds should be laid flat. Keep away from direct heat and sunlight.

2.Lightly press with an iron on a cool setting to reshape wherever necessary.

3.Do not tumble dry and wring.

HOW TO STORE TWEED GARMENTS

1.Store tweed in a climate-controlled, cool environment.

2.Avoid humid areas. Use mothballs, lavender, or cedar chips to deter moths.

3.Do not pile while damp.

4.Keep away from sequins, metal accessories (like belts), or anything that could snag or cause pilling.

NOTE: "Each design may have specific care needs based on its construction or the fabric blend. Always refer to the care label for detailed instructions, as requirements may vary depending on the material composition."
