MARKETING MANAGER AT THE CANARY DIAMOND COMPANY
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, May Yee shares about her journey as a Breast Cancer survivor and how together we can make a difference.

I found a small lump above my breast when I stopped breastfeeding my youngest in June 2015. I was 42. I was informed that the lump had traces of cancer cells anad 13 of my lymph nodes in my armpit had to be removed. My world crashed, I was flung into despair anad I was inconsolable for days.
My father was actually ill during that time I was diagnosed and we decided not to tell him about my cancer so as to not make him sad. He passed away after my first session of chemotherapy... The sadness I felt losing him was harder than the chemotherapy itself.
It took an entire village to get back on my feet and I am eternally grateful to them. My husband, trainer and mum cheered me on, my good friends would do school runs for me so that I could rest and my beautiful kids would hug and kiss me often.
I realised after my cancer treatment that self care and managing stress were so important. I made the decision to take care of myself first - to do something nice for myself everyday, workout everyday, eat better everyday, see the good in life and learn to say "no".
Take better care of your bodies, go for annual checkups, eat healthier, exercise and learn to reduce stress. For those going through breast cancer treatment anda your caregivers, I wish for you to stay strong, positive and fight. For all the survivors, I am proud that we fought hard.
